Italian born Francesco Lo Cascio set up Studio50 to help budding makeup artists fine tune and develop their skills, after a highly successful career spanning 20 years in the makeup artistry industry.
Now based in London, Francesco started his very own journey into make-up artistry at the London College of Fashion, graduating in makeup artistry. He then went on to achieve a degree in theatrical and special effects makeup with Ealing Hammersmith and West London College, where he mastered techniques such as prosthetic work and creating realistic cuts and bruises.
Francesco then began his career, working as a freelance makeup artist. Early on Francesco worked for the BBC, Abbey Road Studios, the MTV Music Awards and the Party in the Park concert series. He was also part of the makeup artistry team for the Academy Award nominated film – Billy Elliot.
His unique techniques became highly sought after, earning Francesco clients. Famous clients including Kate Moss, Christy Turlington, Eva Herzigova, Lydia Hearst, Destiny’s Child, Isabella Blow, Asia Argento, LeAnn Rimes, the Sugarbabes and Jamiroquai – to name a few.
Francesco’s career also took him to London Fashion Week, where he worked under the legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath on runway shows including Fendi, Alexander McQueen, Alessandro Dell’Acqua, Max Mara and Valentino. He has also contributed to various beauty looks for editorial publications including Vogue Italia, Marie Claire, Vogue Bambini, Vogue Espana and the Daily Telegraph.
As an artist, Francesco is constantly immersed in both the high fashion and consumer worlds, acting as a liaison between the two. This has enabled him to create a makeup artist school that caters for both high fashion and editorial clients and consumers. His immense talent and experience allows him to understand and exemplify his technique and understanding of the industry, something he aims to pass on to Studio50 students to give them the best chance at success.
